[The feed was turned on, but it seemed as though Duck had been too deep in thought to remember that it was on. It was quiet for a while as she looked to be rather downhearted.]

Family... I... wonder what it's like to have one....?

[Glancing up, she finally noticed the feed had been on for a while now.]

O-Oh yeah! I forgot I turned this on....

I have a question for everyone here.... I was just wondering how it would be like to have a family? I've never really had one of my own, but I imagine it would be a wonderful thing. I have so many wonderful friends that I care about, but I can't help but wonder what I'll do after I have to return to my old life....

[For most people, they can take that as is her going home from Luceti, but to those who know about her secret identity(s), she's referring to when Mytho has his heart shards back again and returns to being a duck again.]

What are your families like? Are family traditions different from other families around? I'm... just a little curious. I'd like to hear from you all.

[And with that, she slightly bows her head as if giving her respect as she turns the feed off for now.]

[He's never actually heard the word Mallynapped before, but after chewing on a little bit, the meaning comes to him; it's a rather appropriate word really.]

So the Malnosso took you in too, huh? [Sokka frowns at that news. Yeah, he was definitely right to be skeptical about those guys; it was just as Elizabeth had said. He really wanted to give them a name to make fun of them, but not knowing them made it difficult to do that.] One of these days, those jerks are going to get a taste of their own medicine, and they won't like it.

[Sokka can't help but become interested the moment this girl name-drops someone very familiar. There's a momentary excitement that gets into him... except it dies out quickly soon thereafter.]

You knew Suki? [He shakes his head though.] No, Suki's not here unfortunately. She apparently was sent back... a while ago, I don't know exactly when.

[Oddly enough, this sounds practically identical to his story in so many ways. It was uncanny.]

Yeah, that's my story all over, too. I don't remember a thing about this place since coming back. Though I don't know why I would since, yeah, I'm apparently younger now than when I was when I left. This timebending stuff just doesn't make any sense at all. [Then again, he said that about Katara's waterbending back before they met Aang.]

It's good you have someone looking after you though. I know I'm glad I've got so many friends here too. I think I would have committed everyone else here to a mental asylum otherwise just to cope with all the weirdness otherwise!

[Sokka is pretty animated now because you've just activated one of Sokka's rambling rants!]

I'll say! Especially since I came the day before that big draft where they woke up everyone in the middle of the night. I mean, one moment it's "Welcome to Luceti," and the next it's "Good luck figuring out everything out while half the village is gone!"

[Thanks, Obama Ozai Malnosso.]

[Ahem.]

Yeah, sorry, Duck. I don't really remember anyone from before.

[He does legitimately feel bad about that.]

[It's okay. Sokka relishes laughter, even if it's sometimes at him.]

I thankfully avoided it too, though I still feel as if I should've gone to support everyone else. Especially after knowing what happened.

[Duck is practically like Sokka's spiritual sister here.]

Yeah, that was weird. Even weirder was everyone not quite being forward and saying how they knew you or what happened the last time you were here. Granted, I suppose I could go back and read everything, though even this book is going to have just a fraction of what actually happened here.

[Sokka actually hasn't looked to see what his previous self has written just yet. Doing so just feels... awkward.]

[He shrugs and nods.]

Yeah. And most of it probably isn't relevant anymore really. Besides, you're never going to really understand who you were to people before by reading about it.

[And that reminds him of more than one thing really. But at least he's staring at one of them.]

Do you know anything about what happened back then?

[He had actually been thinking more about her relationship with Suki since, at the very least, Suki had known her well enough to take her in. But...]

Well about anything, really. What did Suki tell you though?
theideaguy: (concerned)

[personal profile] theideaguy 2014-07-17 08:33 am (UTC)(link)
[Whoa, hold on. Sokka is working backwards through the relationships as he imagined they went. He knew of some of the stranger shifts that the Malnosso had run via Raine's guide, but families weren't one that he was aware of. Still, if Suki had been Duck's mother, and his previous self had been there too...

Well, of course he naturally assumed that he and Suki were a thing; how could that not be, right?

But this was Luceti. Stranger things have happened.]

And that made me...?

[It's in that moment that Sokka hears another voice in his head. "You were important." Raven said that to him earlier. And now enough puzzle pieces were starting to fall into place to begin to understand just how that canvas looked.

Suki and him had adopted this girl. Well, not this girl, and the adoption wasn't wholly voluntary. But it had clearly affected Suki. What happened with him? Why hadn't he and Duck interacted as much last time? So many questions.

Though right now, the biggest one was just what was Duck hoping for from him?]

So that means that Suki is the only family, in a sense, that you ever remember having.

[Well it was certainly an interesting predicament to be in, one he didn't expect at all. If there is anything that could make Luceti more weird than he thought it could be, it is something like this.]

Well, I'll admit that I'm not Suki by any stretch of the imagination. There are definitely aspects in her that... aren't things I am. And I don't know what this secret of yours actually is. But...

[It is a weird state of affairs, but it's not that unimaginable.]

Coming here, I've already gotten to meet two of my sister's future grandchildren. I'm already a great uncle at 18! And I mean great... uncle! [He puts on a broad grin for that.] I get to spoil them like they were already here. I've got family that really isn't family I actually have back home.

I guess that makes family whatever and whoever you want it to be.

Nah, it's fine. [Or at least he guesses he's fine. It's not like he has to be a real father figure tomorrow or anything, after all.] Don't tell her I said it, but having my sister around always gives me a bit of comfort, so I know how that is.

[That's a good girl. Don't tell your not!aunt anything incriminating. Like how much he cares about her.]

So if I can do something for you, well... I can certainly motivationbend you back into shape!

[Or at least try!]
